Thomas E. Rickert

Thomas E. Rickert of Pewaukee died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 89. He was born June 7, 1920, in Oakland, Calif., the son of John and Selma (nee Aschenbach) Rickert.

In 1938, he graduated from South Milwaukee High School. Tom had fond memories of appearing on vaudeville as a child, dancing and playing the accordion. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, playing his accordion in the Army band. In 1948, he received his degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He had been a news editor and reporter for many years at the Waukesha Freeman, writing the column Up and Down Broadway. He retired in 1982.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Jayne (Lubnow) Rickert of Pewaukee; cousin, Emily Sue Schultz of Racine; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie, in 1991.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Highland Memorial Park; please meet at the cemetery office.
