Donald L. Michaelis

Donald L. Michaelis, 90, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, following a long illness. Don was born in Eagle, Wisconsin and moved to Milwaukee in 1947.

 

He was the beloved husband of Ethel; proud father of Karen (Dan Giernoth); and dear grandfather of Quinn (Ernest Olivier). He is also survived by his nephews, Dana, Peter, David and Terry Timmer and their families, as well as other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bessie Michaelis, formerly of Eagle; sister, Lauree (Olaf Timmer); and two nephews, Robert Timmer of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Thomas Timmer of northern California.

 

Don served in the U.S. Coast Guard for one year and with the U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific during World War II as a co-pilot on a B24 for 37 missions. He was employed for 37 years as a tool designer and later as manager, manufacturing development, tractor division, at Allis Chalmers, retiring in 1984. Don was a member of Excelsior Lodge No. 175 F&AM. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

 

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. today, Sept. 1, at Krause Funeral Home, 12401 W. National Ave. New Berlin. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. by Lake Lodge No. 189 F&AM, followed by religious service. Burial will be at 1 p.m. today in Oakridge Cemetery in Eagle.
