Evelyn M. Van Kempen

Evelyn M. Van Kempen, 88, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at Brookfield Rehabilitation & Specialty Care. She was born July 7, 1921, in Beardsley, Minn., the daughter of Hulda and Fred Winter.
She is survived by her son, Gerald; daughter, Carol (Buck) Houston; grandchildren, Brian Van Kempen, Carrie Van Kempen, Todd (Jackie) Evans and Terry (Lisa) Evans; and great-grandchildren, Summer Van Kempen, Brianna Evans, Austin Evans and Mason Evans. She is also survived by her sisters, Bea (Armin) Pinkert and Vivienne (Bill) Ennesser, and her brothers, John (Sandy) Peterson and Wayne (Dorothy) Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; son, Orville Richard; daughter-in-law, Luann (nee Malchow) Van Kempen; and sisters, Florence and Hilda.
Evelyn taught Sunday school for many years at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waukesha. She was a founding member of Grace Missionaries. She loved fishing, playing cards, traveling, Friday fish fries and visiting casinos.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until the 7 p.m. funeral service Friday, Sept. 11, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 700 Beechwood Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Arthur Koepsell will be officiating. Private burial will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, at Prairie Home Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Food Pantry of Waukesha County are appreciated.
