Myrtle E. Harland Fisher (nee Jones)

Myrtle E. Harland Fisher (nee Jones) of Waukesha died Friday, April 2, 2010, at the age of 101. Myrtle was born in Springfield, Mo., on May 5, 1908, the daughter of Richard and Fannie Jones.
Using her God-given gifts for leadership, she was an active member of the First Congregation Church of Waukesha for many years and also served as the first woman moderator in the church’s 125-year history. Myrtle was the past matron of the Pewaukee Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) and grand representative of Alabama in the Wisconsin OES. She was also a grand electra of the OES of Wisconsin, president of the Pewaukee, Waukesha and Tomah Women’s Clubs and Waukesha County Federation of Women’s Clubs. Myrtle also proudly served as president of the Second District of Women’s Clubs. She led the Duplainville 4-H club for many years and was a member of the Waukesha County Junior Fair Board. Myrtle enjoyed knitting, sewing and card playing. She also took great pride in raising violets. Myrtle’s greatest joy in life was her family.
Myrtle will be dearly missed by her son, William (Nancy) Harland of Waukesha; grandchildren, Dr. Russell (Lori) Harland of Brookfield and Robin (Kevin) Vought of Hudson; great-grandchildren, Carrie, Daniel, Elizabeth, Thomas, James, Madeline, Michael and Corissa; daughter-in-law, Eileen of Tomah; step grandchildren, Brian, James, Kimberly and Anthony; and step great-grandchildren. Myrtle is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her four husbands, Myron Harris, Willard Harland, Winfield Christopherson and Earle Fisher; parents; four sisters; and three brothers.
The funeral service for Myrtle will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The Rev. Gary Erickson of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa will be officiating. Myrtle will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Willard S. Harland, immediately following the service at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.
