James A. ‘Jim’ Cheek Jr.
June 1, 1954 – April 5, 2010
James A. "Jim" Cheek Jr. of Waukesha
went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 5, 2010, at AngelsGrace Hospice
in Oconomowoc at the age of 55. He was born June 1, 1954, in Milwaukee,
the son of James Sr. and Elvira (Pelligrini) Cheek.
Jim was a graduate of Custer High School in
Milwaukee, at which time he played baseball and achieved All-City status.
While attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he played catcher
on the baseball team, and was also on the football and swim teams. Jim was
employed with the U.S. Postal Service for more than 32 years, and most
recently worked at the Waukesha post office for many years. He also was a
freelance photographer during Packers games for Reuters news service. Over
the years, he continued his love of baseball by playing on four different
baseball teams in Waukesha, as well as coaching. The most important things
to him were his membership at First Assembly of God in Waukesha and being
a devoted father.
Jim will be deeply missed by his son and best
friend, Anthony James Cheek of Waukesha; his sister, Barbara (Daniel)
Johnson of Delafield; nephew, Michael (Kelly) Johnson; niece, Julie
Johnson; and grandnephew, Ian Johnson. He is also survived by Jackie Sader
and her parents, Mike Sader, Mike and Renee Hedtcke, Matt Hedtcke, Tim
Hedtcke, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, April 11, at First Assembly of God, 1314 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha,
followed by a celebration of his life at 4 p.m. The Rev. Verne Hagenbeck
will preside. Jim’s final resting place will be at Prairie Home
Cemetery, Waukesha.
