Willard H. "Bill" Stocks, born March 9, 1920, departed this life and entered into eternal life with Jesus on Saturday, April 17, 2010, at Heritage Center of Morristown, Tenn., after a brief battle with cancer.
He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Wales Volunteer Fire Department in Wales for 50 years before moving to Morristown, where he was a member of the West Hamblen County Volunteer Fire Department for 21 one years. In his younger years, he was an entrepreneur in carpentry. Later in life, he still did remodeling and side work for pleasure. The fire department and working with wood were his loves. His heart was his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Fannie Stocks; two sisters, Laura and Ellen; and his brother, Layton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Marjorie Stocks; a son, Brian (Joyce) Stocks of Oconomowoc; daughters, Wendy (Byron) Slagle of Watertown and Sue (Ritchie) Roberts of Talbott, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Tammy (Dave) Dinauer, BJ Stocks, Marc (Holly) Slagle and Randy Slagle, all of Wisconsin, and Jamie (Randy) Lowe and Shawn Roberts of Talbott; and five great-grandchildren, Saul, Beatrice, Christian, Rilea and Tanner.
He had several friends in both the Wales Volunteer Fire Department and West Hamblen County Volunteer Fire Department. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and friend. Those who knew him were truly blessed by his presence. He will be sadly missed, but his memories will always be held close in our hearts.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love and prayers as well as the staff of Heritage for their excellent care, with a special thanks to Colleen, Amanda, Dr. Anderson and Dr. Mejia.
