Elaine M. Gerber (nee Zilavy) of Mukwonago passed away Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at the age of 85. She was born in Milwaukee on Dec. 16, 1924, a daughter of the late August and Frances (Weigele) Zilavy.
Elaine was married to John E. Gerber on Aug. 9, 1947, and together they raised six children. She was a dedicated military wife and a devoted mother. In earlier years, Elaine was involved in her parish and children’s school activities. She was a lifelong learner and enjoyed lively discussions. She easily formed friendships throughout her life as well as at Linden Ridge, where she had recently resided. Her greatest love was her family. She will be dearly missed.
Elaine is survived by her children, Mary E. Gerber (Vincent Kloss) of Milwaukee, Julie (John) Szivecz of Rome, John Jr. (Julie) Gerber of Mukwonago, Christine (Daniel) Mahoney of Wales, Patricia (Steven) Utke of Douglasville, Ga., and Jeannie (Keith) Bartlein of Stanley, N.C. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Jennifer, John Jr. (Michelle), Andrew, James, Samantha and Russell; her great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Ryan; a sister, Anne Zilavy of St. Augustine, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ada Zilavy of New Berlin; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, John E. Gerber; her brother, Alfred Zilavy; a grandson-in-law, Gary Miles; and her longtime companion, her cat Charlie.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Visitation continues from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial Tuesday, Aug. 10, at St. Paul Catholic Church, S38-W31602 Highway D, Genesee Depot. The Rev. Mick Savio will be officiating.
Entombment will immediately follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 7301 W. Nash St., Milwaukee.
