Robert M. Groh
Sept. 5, 1927 Ė Aug. 5, 2010
Bobís lifeís journey ended Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at the age of 82.
Robert Mathieu Groh was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Richland Center, the son of Sadie (Mathews) and Rupert Groh. He graduated from Muscoda High School in January 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Trained as a medical corpsman, Bob served his country while stationed in China and continued his enjoyment of the pugilistic arts. The skills he gained in the ring served him well throughout his life.
Upon his return to Richland Center, he married the love of his life, Alma M. Hinkle, on Dec. 27, 1947, in Richland Center, and they enjoyed more than 62 years of marriage.
Growing up on a farm and marrying the daughter of a farmer, it was no surprise that Bob became a farmer. After losing all of their belongings in a house fire, Bob relocated his family to Waukesha County in 1960. In 1971, Bob established Surface Maintenance Systems Inc. Over the next 25 years, Bob was involved in a variety of business ventures and founded Geo-Synthetics, Inc. and Cathodic Protection Systems, Inc. These firms continue today, being run by his sons.
Bob is survived by his wife, Alma; sons, Robert (Patricia) of Pewaukee, Mark (Kristine) of Lusk, Wyo., and Michael (Jule) of Delafield. He is further survived by his brother, Jim (Evelyn) of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; along with nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Arthur.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Aug. 9, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 W. Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha. Interment to follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
