Thomas
Long, 73, of Waukesha, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at Waukesha Memorial
Hospital. He was born Oct. 25, 1936, in Fayette Township, to James and
Katherine (McAloon) Long.
He graduated from the Darlington High School Class of 1954. On Sept. 7,
1963, he married Shirley A. Smith at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in
Darlington. They were married for almost 47 years. Tom worked as an
engineer for Wisconsin Bell, which later became Ameritech and then
AT&T. He also served in the U.S. Army. Tom volunteered with the
Telephone Pioneers and at LindenGrove Nursing Home in Waukesha.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Teresa (Bob) Ashton of
Oshkosh; three granddaughters, Ashley, Mary Katherine and Olivia Ashton;
two brothers, Bob Long Sr. and Kenneth Long, both of Darlington; a sister,
Darlene (Jerry) Fogel of Cudahy; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Kathleen Herbst
and Joe, Lawrence, John and Frank Long; his brothers- and sisters-in-law,
LaVerne Herbst, Clara, Elaine, Jeanie and Lonna Long; a nephew, Joey Long;
and two great-nieces, Carrie Herbst and Angie Broge.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at
Steil Camacho Funeral Home, 206 E. Harriet St., Darlington. A Mass of
Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Holy
Rosary Catholic Church, 104 E. Harriet St., Darlington, with the Rev.
Monte Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery in
Darlington.
In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials are preferred.
