TOWN OF DELAFIELD
Carl Frank Schmidt
June 26, 1921 – Aug. 9, 2010
Carl F. Schmidt, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, after a
long and valiant fight, never giving up his will to live.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Naomi R. Volland Schmidt.
They resided together with their family in the town of Delafield for 58
years. Carl was the dear father of Grant Schmidt, Carolyn (John) Danek,
Greg Schmidt and Joanie Edwards; the beloved grandfather of Joshua (Mel)
Edwards, Jessie (Gabe) Edwards, Katie (Joe) Susler, Jeff Danek and Scott
Danek; and great-grandfather of Isabelle Edwards and Aaron Susler. Carl is
also survived by his brothers, Joseph (Carol) Schmidt and Paul (Mozzle)
Schmidt; sisters, Charlene (the late Larry) Lewis, Kitty (the late Jack)
Nehs and Josephine (Warren) Griffin; and many nieces, nephews and dear
friends.
Carl was preceded in death by a grandson, Dustin Grant Schmidt, and a
son-in-law, Terry Edwards.
Carl proudly served his country in World War II for 3 1/2 years with the
95th Infantry Division in France. He was a decorated war veteran, having
received the Silver Star and Legion of Merit for gallantry in action. Carl
was a proud 50-year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9537.
Carl was employed for 30 years as a master carpenter at Wood-Lam Inc. In
1983, he was presented with the Master Craftsmanship Award for Excellence
for his outstanding contribution to his field.
Carl was an avid sportsman and spent many happy hours pursuing deer
hunting, turkey hunting and fishing. In his free time, Carl enjoyed
restoring vintage autos and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, gun and car
repair, travel and spending time with his family. In retirement, Carl and
Naomi traveled extensively to many Army reunions and took many
cross-country trips.
All those who knew Carl were aware that he truly was the
"warrior." He reiterated many times that he "would fight
’til the end." He was an easy man to look up to and respect. The
world has lost one of the "great ones." We have lost a wonderful
husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, dear brother and uncle to
so many.
Visitation for Carl will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of
Christian burial today, Aug. 12, at St. Anthony on the Lake Catholic
Church, W280-N2101 Highway SS, town of Delafield. The burial, with full
military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Prairie Home
Cemetery in Waukesha.
Church and Chapel Funeral Home is serving the family. For more
