NEW BERLIN
Susan Ann Timm (nee Tengler)
Oct. 2, 1921 – Nov. 28, 2010
Susan Ann
Timm (nee Tengler) went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010,
at the age of 89. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed.
She was born Oct. 2, 1921, to German immigrants John and Theresa Tengler
in Hettinger County, near New England, N.D. Susan and her brothers Frank
and Harvey and her sisters Irene and Elsie moved often, but after a short
stay in Romania, the family settled in Milwaukee. She graduated from
Wauwatosa High School in 1940 and soon met Ewald Timm, the man to whom she
would be married for 67 years. They were wed Oct. 25, 1943, and soon moved
to Louisiana before Ewald was shipped to the South Pacific in World War
II. Returning to Milwaukee in 1944, she worked as a propeller inspector
for A.O. Smith Company until Ewald returned in 1946. Daughters Sandra and
Carolyn soon followed, and in the early 1950s, the family built a home in
New Berlin.
From her own words in 1999: "In November 1953, we moved to our new
(and present) home on a 1-1/3 acre lot in New Berlin. We did the
contracting, laid the stone and other work. I quickly became a
mortar-mixer and brusher, grass cutter, painter, gardener – a jack-of-alltrades!
I was a Brownie leader, Girl Scout nature lady, High School first-aider
for 10 years (a professional volunteer Ewald says), and am a charter
member of the New Berlin Women’s Club and Valparaiso University Guild. I
love the outdoors immensely, fishing (outfishing Ewald in his old age),
tent camping, sports, concerts, theater, art, doing crafts and reading (if
time permits). But always just being a good wife, Mother and homemaker –
and a good Grandmother for my two grandsons – Jesse and Justin."
She was sweet and kind, made friends quickly and constantly, loved to
dance and the art of conversation. She was good to her family and friends
and never had an unkind word for anyone. She was a member of Elm Grove
Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1956 and was a member of New Berlin
Homemakers for many years. Sue and Ewald lived together in their home
until October of this year.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away Wednesday,
Nov. 24, 2010.
She is survived by her brother, Harvey; sister, Elsie; daughters, Sandra
(William) O’Brien and Carolyn (Scott) Freiberg; grandsons, Jesse
(Tamara) O’Brien and Justin Freiberg; great-grandchildren, Dillon, Noah,
Faith and Julia O’Brien; and many relatives and friends.
A joint visitation for Susan and Ewald Timm will be held from 1 p.m. until
2:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Elm Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, 945
Terrace Drive, Elm Grove, with the funeral service beginning at 3 p.m.
Private entombment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Waukesha Memorial Hospital Foundation in
memory of Ewald and Susan Timm are appreciated.
Church and Chapel Ritter-Larsen Bros. Funeral Home is serving the family.
