Robert E. Ackerberg, 99, of Waukesha, formerly of Wilmette and Evanston, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. He was born Sept. 22, 1911, in Chicago, the son of Robert E. and Betty V. (nee Kjallman) Ackerberg.

Robert graduated from Dartmouth College and later from the University of Michigan Law School. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Starrett in 1939 at First United Methodist Church in Evanston; she preceded him in death in March 2006. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II. In 1957, he joined the law firm of Schiff Hardin, where he became a partner. For half of his career, he was an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board, leaving as the chief law officer of the Chicago regional office. In retirement, Robert was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Evanston and the North Shore Senior Center.

He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Joan (John) Clausz of Waukesha and Susan Ackerberg of Santa Rosa, Calif.; grandchildren, Daniel (Wendy) Clausz of Appleton, Sharon Clausz of Milwaukee and Cindy (John) Valdelomar of Santa Rosa; five greatgrandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Ackerberg.
Private services will be held.
