Jennie Peterson

April 24, 1924 – Dec. 19, 2010

Jennie Peterson, a lifelong resident of Waukesha, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at the age of 86 years.

Jennie was born April 24, 1924, in Waukesha, the daughter of William and Mary Wollenzien. Jennie was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for more than 40 years, past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Purple Heart and an auxiliary member of the Disabled American Veterans. She was a volunteer at the Veterans Administration hospital and many area nursing homes. Jennie was also a member of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association. She was a most generous and caring person and was always there for anyone who needed her.

Jennie will be deeply missed by her children, Maxine (Marty) Gerken, Judi (Nicholas) Tovell and Martin (Krystal) Peterson; her grandchildren, Cathy (Mike) Haas, Mary (Stewart) LaPointe, Carl (Ellen) Whitney, Jeni (Paul) Manago, Troy (Nancy) Woolridge, Cristi (Lenny) Wolfram, Sheila (Christopher) Crites, Kyle (Chrissy) Peterson and Mike Peterson; 15 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, John, Bob, Jim, Woodie (Kay) and Don; her sisters; Dorothy Wallendal and Ellen Price; dear niece, Lucille (Dale) Kuss; as well as other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M., and sisters Evelyn and Arlene.

The funeral service for Jennie will be held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 22, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Larry Smith will officiate. The visitation will be held on today from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jennie’s name are appreciated to the American Cancer Society, N19-W24350 Riverwood Drive, Waukesha, WI 53188, or the charity of your choice.
