Ruth M. Sweezey

Ruth Sweezey, 82, of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Dousman, passed away Jan. 8, 2010. She died in her home, with complications from emphysema. She was surrounded by family and her beloved dog, Weezey.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George B. Sweezey; her mother, Anna Bodien; father, Al Johnson; stepfather, Alfred Bodien; and her dear brother, Earl Bodien.

Ruth is survived by her six children: Sandra (Guy) Baumann of Waukesha, Janet Smith of Hartland, George K. Sweezey of Waukesha, Shawn Sweezey of Waukesha, Glen (Mary-Betsy) Sweezey of Sullivan and Gary Sweezey of Waukesha.

She is further survived by her grandchildren: Claudia Edson and Joel Baumann, Julianne Krueger, George and Joe Sweezey, Nicole Clauer, Angela Marincic and Pamela Sweezey, and Jennifer Sweezey; and great-grandchildren, Mercedes, Lilian, Gabriella Edson, Chloe Sweezey, Alex Marincic and Brooklynn Sweezey.

She was a well-known reporter for the the Oconomowoc Enterprise for 25 years, and the Dousman Index newspaper, until she and her husband, George, moved to Florida in 1985.

Ruth taught Sunday School at the Emmanuel United Church of Christ for many years.

She was well-known for wearing hats, she was called the "Hat Lady" at her senior and church group. She always was ready to laugh and see the good side of people and life.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

There will be a gathering for friends and family at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 12, 2010 at at the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 36821 Sunset Drive (Highway 18), Dousman, followed by the memorial service at 7 p.m. with Pastor Nansi Hawkins officiating.
