Robert H.‘Pete’ Peterson
March 8, 1935 – Feb. 14, 2010
Robert H. "Pete" Peterson of Waukesha went home to heaven
Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
following a courageous nine-year battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
He was born in New Haven, Conn., on March
8, 1935, a son of the late Harold and Isabelle (Dickson) Peterson. Bob
entered the U.S. Navy in 1954 and was stationed aboard the USS Kula Gulf
CVE108, the USS Coral Sea CVA43 and the USS Midway CVA41. Following four
years of service, he was honorably discharged having been awarded the Good
Conduct Medal as well as the Navy Occupation and National Defense medals.
He went on to attend college at Milwaukee School of Engineering, where he
earned an associate’s degree.
He married Muriel M. (Komar) on April 15, 1961. The two raised four
children. He was employed by Wisconsin Electric Power Co. for more than 42
years, retiring as a project technician. Bob was a true patriot. He stayed
active with the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 2260 and was also an active
member of the USS Coral Sea. Bob loved history, the great outdoors,
feeding the birds and had a wonderful sense of humor. Bob was a man of few
words, but was well known for his many one-liners. He loved his family and
was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of more than 48 years, Muriel; his
sons, Dean (Denise) Peterson of Watertown and Keith (Kristin) Peterson of
Lakeville, Minn.; and his daughters, Michele (Thomas) Adyniec of Waukesha
and Colette (Robert) Kowalik of Brookfield. He will also be remembered by
his 10 grandchildren, Gregory, Mariah, Noah, Bryan, Samuel, Leidy, Emma,
Dominic, Luca and Tate. Bob also leaves a brother-in-law, Christian Madsen
of Thomasville, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Patricia Komar of Milwaukee, his
best friend, Bob Wade; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and
his sisters, Jean Peterson and Betty Madsen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be distributed among Robert’s
caregivers by the family.
