John W. ‘Jack’ Snyder

May 11, 1924 – Feb. 21, 2010

John W. "Jack" Snyder of New Berlin was born to eternal life Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 85. He was born May 11, 1924, in Flint, Mich., the son of Kenneth Irvin and Pauline Cecilia (nee Hynes) Snyder.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. Jack was a graduate of Oconomowoc High School and of Carroll College, where he received a degree in business administration and marketing. He worked for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as their promotions manager until his retirement in 1984. Following the death of his first wife, Joan (nee Kreitzer), in 1996, he married Barbara Swanson (nee Waters) on Dec. 25, 2004. Jack was a member of the Toastmasters and a former member of St. Luke’s Church in New Berlin and a current member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waukesha for the past five years.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Barbara of New Berlin; his children, Anne (Dave) Domach of Waukesha, Cathy (Todd) Wojciuk of Waukesha, Veronica "Vicki" Snyder of Waukesha and Chris (Jim) Turner of Orlando, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Nick and Sam Domach, Chuck and John Wojciuk, and Leah, Luke and Aaron Turner. He is further survived by his sister, Pat (Chuck) Herro of Oconomowoc; brother, Harry "Spike" (Rosemary) Snyder of Oconomowoc; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his first wife, Joan, he is preceded in death by his brothers Pete and Mike and his parents.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the noon funeral Mass on Saturday, Feb. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Brian Mason will preside. Full military honors will follow the Mass at the church.
