Fern R. Schultz

    Feb. 17, 1911 – Jan. 10, 2010

    Fern R. Schultz, 98, was called home to Our Lord on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at Hospice Alliance House in Pleasant Prairie.
    Fern was born in Eau Claire on Feb. 17, 1911, the daughter of the late Howard and Lydia (nee Sanford) Bass. Fern received her teaching certificate at the age of 18 and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Wisconsin Rapids until she married Richard Schultz on Feb. 10, 1936. Richard preceded her in death Sept. 24, 1984.
    She and Richard owned and operated the Texaco Station on Main Street in Mukwonago for many years. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1961 from Whitewater University. She taught school in a one-room school house at Jericho Corners, and also taught in North Prairie and Mukwonago. Fern retired in 1973.
    Fern is survived by her sons, Richard F. Jr. (Nancy) of Phoenix and Lee H. (Marilyn) of Dillard, Ore.; a daughter, Kathleen A. (Chester) Dickow of Pleasant Prairie; one sister, Irene Hanson of Chetek; six grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by three brothers, Duane, Clifford and Donald, and a sister Dorothy, who died in infancy.
    Fern enjoyed reading, bridge and playing Scrabble every Thursday with "Do" and playing cards with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
    We wish to thank the entire staff and friends from the Heritage in East Troy for their love and friendship extended to Fern during her 11-year stay before moving to Meadowmere in Kenosha. Thank you to the staff at Hospice House, who cared for her and made her comfortable during her last days.
    Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Jan. 16, at Mukwonago United Church of Christ, S93-W30740 Highway NN, Mukwonago.
    Memorials may be made to the Mukwonago United Church of Christ or to the Hospice Alliance, Pleasant Prairie, in loving memory of Fern.
