Stephen J. Carpenter

    Stephen J. Carpenter, 59, of Oconomowoc, passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at his residence.
    He was the loving father of Andrew and Rachel; dear son of Elizabeth Carpenter of Marquette, Mich.; and fond brother of Mary (Greg) Stoewer of Esko, Minn., Clare Carpenter of Lafayette, Colo., Daniel (Ann) Carpenter of Waukesha, Jean Carpenter of Duluth, M.N., Michael Carpenter of Austin, Texas, Matthew Carpenter of Marquette and Ellen (Dana Teske) Carpenter of Minneapolis, Minn. He is also survived by his loving friend, Cathy Magill of Oconomowoc, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Jack.
    Steve was a teacher at Lowell Elementary School in Waukesha and had taught in the Waukesha School District for more than 35 years. Steve was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and received his master’s degree from Brigham Young University. Steve was a wellrespected tennis teaching pro/player.
    Friends may visit from noon until the 3 p.m. funeral Mass on Friday, Jan. 15, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 995 S. Silver Lake St., Oconomowoc. Refreshments will be served following the service in Marion Hall at the church.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Steve Carpenter Scholarship Fund c/o Waukesha State Bank, the ALS-TDI Foundation or St. Jerome Church are appreciated.
    Burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
