Christine E. Mentzer, 104, of Two Rivers, died suddenly Saturday afternoon, Jan. 9, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Oct. 12, 1905, in Wilson, Mich., a daughter of the late John and Nellie (Tyra) Marsicek, and attended school in Michigan. On July 25, 1942, she married Phillip L. Mentzer at Columbus, Ga. He preceded her in death June 3, 1989. Christine worked at Hamilton Industries for many years, retiring as a mail clerk at the age of 70. She enjoyed reading and visiting with her family.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy Wetenkamp of Manitowoc, and Susan and Tom Rapp of Mishicot; one son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Catherine Mentzer of Oconomowoc; 10 grandchildren, Cindy (Dan) Miller, Christy (Charles) Pritzl, Ken (Samantha) Wetenkamp, Sara (Andrew) Hucek, Carrie Kozlowski, Dennis Kozlowski, John Kozlowski, Jeff (Mika) Kozlowski, Mark (Cathleen) Mentzer and Steve (Jenny) Mentzer; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Marie Varner of Florida, Eleanore Kubiaczak and Fran (Jerry) Novotny, all of Milwaukee; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and very special neighbor friends, John and Janet Parma, who helped make it possible for Mom to live in her own home.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Daniel J. Mentzer, on Jan. 6, 1989; by two sons-inlaw, Edward J. Wetenkamp and Dennis J. Kozlowski; and nine brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3218 Tannery Road, Two Rivers. The Rev. William G. O’Brien officiated at the Mass of Christian burial. Burial followed in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Highway 310, Manitowoc.
