V. May Powell
of Waukesha passed away in the early
morning hours of Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at AngelsGrace Hospice.
She
was born in Rio on May 11, 1918, a daughter of the
late Dr. William C. and Mary Jeannette (Hammond) Maas. She attended
local schools, and was a 1939 graduate of the Columbia Hospital School
of Nursing. May was married to Richard T. Powell and the two raised four
children. A dedicated nurse, May was employed at Waukesha Memorial
Hospital for more than 37 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and
grandmother. Her family was very important to her. May was a longtime
member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church and also enjoyed going to the
Fireside Theatre with her husband and their dear friends Evie and Rip.
May
is survived by her children, William (Melissa) Powell of Sheboygan,
Ginger Ronald) Agen of Waukesha, Jim (Beth) Powell of Madison and David
Powell of Milwaukee. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren,
Symantha (Patrick) Robinson, Shelley (Forrest) Smith, Danny Agen, Amanda
Chuck) Shapiro, Sita (John) Corcoran, Andrew Powell and Rachael
Richardson. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Casey, Elwood and
Jane; niece, Lorraine Mae, and her longtime dear friend, Evie.
May
was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of more than
66 years, Richard; her brother, William Maas; and her sisters, Margaret
Patchin and Lorraine Severson.
Visitation
for May will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 .m. funeral Mass on
Wednesday, Jan. 27, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2400 Highway 59
in Waukesha. The Rev. James Loehr will be officiating. Interment will
immediately follow the services at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery,
Waukesha.
