Leonard J. Podjaski

Leonard J. Podjaski was born to life in Milwaukee on Feb. 25, 1926, and passed into eternal life Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at the age of 83.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Marie Podjaski (nee Wertschnig).
He was the dear father of Steven (Susan) of Waukesha, Ellyn (Joe) Dunne of Chenequa, Karen (Dale) Grossbier of Wisconsin Rapids, Lauren (Mark) Lewis of Menomonee Falls and Wayne (Patti) of Las Vegas; grandfather of Sarah, Sandra, Eric, Shelly, Nicole and David; and brother of Doris Hurley and Louis (George) Hurley, residing in Las Vegas.
Leonard grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from Messmer High School on June 10, 1945. He worked at American Motors (Seaman Body) from 1948 to 1950.
He served as a gunners mate in field artillery from 1950 to 1952 in Germany.
He met the love of his life in 1950, Shirley O. from Aurora, and they were married Nov. 15, 1952.
He worked for the post office from 1952 to 1953, became a carpenters apprentice in 1954 and passed his apprentice test (with an A) on Aug. 6, 1957, and was a carpenter up until his retirement in April 1981.
As a carpenter, he built homes for his employers and for his family in the southeastern Wisconsin area. In 1956, he built the first family home on Friess Lake and later, as the family grew, he built another home in Hubertus in 1960 and later a retirement home on Lake Camelot.
Leonard enjoyed outings with the family at Friess Lake, Lake Camelot and Lake Mead and enjoyed fishing, speed boating and taking his “kids” water skiing, playing horseshoes, bowling, sheepshead and other card games.
Leonard and Shirley retired to Las Vegas in 1986 and returned to Menomonee Falls in 2006.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Good Shepherd Parish, N88-W17658 Christman Road, Menomonee Falls.
