Rev. Elbert W. Ison

The Rev. Elbert W. Ison of Sligo, Pa., formerly of Milwaukee, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Clarview Nursing Home in Sligo at the age of 92. The Rev. Ison was born in Ballard, Texas, on Aug. 8, 1917, a son of Cleveland and Laura (Watrous) Ison.

He was a past pastor and lifetime member of the Metropolitan Church Association. The Rev. Ison volunteered his time by reading to children at various schools in Milwaukee and Waukesha. He also worked for Golden Guernsey Dairy for a time. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his love of singing and his innate ability to turn what was being talked about into a song.

The Rev. Ison will be dearly missed by his daughter, Michelle (Daniel) Miller; grandchildren, William Miller, Melissa (Michael) Jones, Kimberly (David) Goff, Cora Ison, Katherine Ison and Christina Ison; great-grandchildren, Jesse, Jacob, Evan and Gavin. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; son, Chester; parents; and brothers, Wendell and Everett.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, July 29, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. Burial with full military honors at Prairie Home Cemetery will follow immediately.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are appreciated.
