June 6, 1917 – July 28, 2010
Winifred
J. Luther, 93, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010. She was born in
Waukesha on June 6, 1917, the daughter of Frederick and Minnie Holtz.
She grew up in Waukesha and graduated from Waukesha High School in 1935.
She attended the School of Cosmetology in Milwaukee. She married Ray
(Jack) Luther 72 years ago on Feb. 15, 1938. They continued to live in
Waukesha until moving to Stoughton in 1965. Upon their retirement, Winnie
and Jack spent their summers at their cottage in Wild Rose until moving to
the Stoughton Vennevoll Retirement Community in 1986. For 26 years, they
spent their winters in Florida.
Winifred is survived by her husband, Jack, and their children, Tom (Sandy)
Luther, Dick (Kay) Luther and Mary (Gary) Meloy. In addition to her
husband and children, she is survived by her grandchildren, Craig (Sue)
Luther, Leah (Doug) Maurer, Robyn Marcoux, Rod (Cassey) Luther, Patric (Tia)
Meloy, Colleen (Kevin) Meloy and Mike (Mandy) Meloy and 16
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold Holtz; and
sisters, Mildred Wandschneider and Bernice Schliecker.
She loved life and displayed that in her many ways of sharing what she and
Jack had. Her straightforward style and positive attitude made being
around her such a joy. For those of you who knew Winnie and how kind she
was, think of it as a tribute to her the next time you do your act of
kindness.
The family extends a special THANK YOU to the dedicated Riverwalk Unit
staff at Skaalen Home and Hospice.
At Winifred’s request there will be a private family memorial service at
Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha.
