Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Cerreta (nee Peterson)

Kathleen "Kathy" Cerreta (nee Peterson) of Mukwonago passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the age of 58, at her home with her family by her side. Kathy was born in Shawano on Jan. 27, 1952, the daughter of Melvin and Mary Terese Peterson.

She spent her childhood in Shawano until 1970. In 1974, Kathy received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind. While studying abroad in Rome, Italy, she met Dennis Cerreta and they were married Aug. 31, 1974. Kathy was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Genesee Depot and kept a strong faith in God, which she shared with her family. Kathy was a homemaker who devoted her life to her daughters, Maria and Sara. She enjoyed reading, walking her dog Rudy and laughing. Kathy was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan and loved the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. She had an eye for interior design and loved her weekly visits with her dad. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, friend and Nana who had the biggest heart and passion for her daughters and granddaughters.

Kathy will be dearly missed by her husband, Dennis; daughters, Maria (Joshua) Knox of Chanhassen, Minn., and Sara Cerreta of Chicago; father, Mel Peterson of Shawano; and granddaughters, Emma and Sophia Knox. Kathy is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Terese Peterson.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 25, at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 26, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, S38-W31602 Highway D, Genesee Depot, WI 53127. The Rev. Mark Molling will officiate. Burial will be in Shawano.

Kathy’s family would like to thank the caring nursing staff at Waukesha Memorial Hospital and especially Dr. Tanel, Dr. Korker and Dr. Dryer for all their hard work, support and great care of Kathy.
