William F. Baumgart passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the age of 89 in Newton, Iowa. He was born April 23, 1920 in Waukesha, the son of Frederick and Margaret (Orth) Baumgart. He was a high school graduate of Waukesha, and later graduated from Marquette University. He served his country in the U.S. Navy as a fighter pilot during World War II in the Pacific Theater and retired as a lt. commander.

In October 1943, William was united in marriage with Ramona J. Austin. They became the proud parents of two sons, Bill and Kris. William was employed as a senior vice president for New York Life Insurance Company. He was a Free Mason, and enjoyed his family, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and was a great storyteller. Since 1986, he lived in Ankeny, Lake City and Newton, Iowa.

William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ramona, in December 2000; his brothers Robert and Frederick; and his sister, Joanne.

Those left to honor William’s memory include his sons: Bill (Barb) Baumgart of Chicago, Ill., and Kris (Sandy) Baumgart of Newton; his grandchildren: Erin, Curt and Sarah Baumgart; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral services for William will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5 in the Prairie Home Cemetery chapel in Waukesha.

The Pence–Reese Funeral Home in Newton, Iowa, has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held just prior to the services.
