Kenneth ‘Ken’ W. Summerfield
March 3, 1943 – March 22, 2010
Kenneth "Ken" W. Summerfield of Waukesha passed away
unexpectedly Monday, March 22, 2010. He was born in Milwaukee on March 3,
1943, a son of the late Ward and Frances (Hughes) Summerfield.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962, serving his
country during the Vietnam Era, and was honorably discharged in 1966. Ken
was married to Sandra Gail (nee Chovanec) on July 1, 1967, and they raised
three sons. Ken was employed by Oilgear as a sales application engineer,
retiring in April of 2007. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors and was a
skilled landscaper and gardener. He was involved as a baseball coach with
CAA Mukwonago and the town of Vernon baseball league. Ken and Sandi were
active in fostering and rescuing greyhounds; in fact, Ken was fondly
referred to as "Dog Daddy."
Ken will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of
more than 42 years, Sandra; his sons, Derik (Katie) Summerfield, Brent
(Lisa) Summerfield and Keith Summerfield; along with his grandchildren, Jordyn and Samantha Summerfield; and his dogs, Kifi and Reggie. He also
leaves his brothers-in-law, Donald Klumb Sr. and Scott (Gwynne) Chovanec;
and a sister-in-law, Suzanne (Kevin) Washuta. Ken is further survived by
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his
sister, Jacqueline Klumb.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 7
p.m. funeral service Thursday, March 25, at Cesarz, Charapata &
Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The Rev. Peter
Peterson will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, for his kindness to and
affection for greyhounds, donations may be made to Greyhounds Only, 335 E.
