Joseph W. Hanch

Sept. 4, 1911 – March 29, 2010

Joseph W. Hanch, 98, formerly of Palmyra, died Monday, March 29, 2010, at his residence in Whitewater.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1911, the son of the late Vendel and Elizabeth Hanch. He married Doris L. Bishop in Palmyra on June 25, 1945.

 Joseph owned and operated the family farm in the township of Sullivan for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II as a combat medic in the Wildcat Division in the Pacific. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, FS Board of Directors and the American Legion.

Joseph is survived by his children, Robert (Becki) Laatz of Palmyra, Joseph Hanch of Jefferson and Eileen Knoble of Palmyra; 16 grandchildren; 29 greatgrandchildren; four greatgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine, Elizabeth and Rosie; special friends, Mary Ebbott, Shirley Olsen and Jean Jones; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, in 2004; son, James; brothers, John and Paul; and sisters, Anna and Margaret.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, April 5, at Mealy’s Funeral Home, 320 W. Main St., Palmyra. Visitation continues from 10:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, April 6, at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, County Highway E, township of Sullivan, with the Rev. Suni Caylor officiating.
