OCONOMOWOC
Lois Pauline Jensen
Nov. 19, 1928 – May 10, 2010
Lois Pauline Jensen passed away peacefully Monday evening, May 10, 2010,
at Shorehaven Health Care Center in Oconomowoc.
Lois was born Nov. 19, 1928, to Arthur and Edith Hasslinger, on their farm
in Hartland. Lois attended Bark River Grade School and Hartland High
School, and graduated valedictorian of her high school class at age 17.
After high school, she completed a short secretarial course and went to
work for Haslow Plumbing in Hartland. She married her sweetheart, Charles
Otto Jensen, on May 15, 1948.
Charles and Lois raised five children with love and the determination to
pass on their faith and commitment to serving others. Both Lois and
Charles were active members of their church and community. Lois was a
church organist and choir member for Grace Episcopal Church in Hartland,
the treasurer for many years at St. Anskar’s Episcopal church, a Bible
study participant up until the past few months, a Cub Scout den mother, a
4-H leader and a school board member.
After her youngest child began kindergarten, Lois took the position of
part-time city clerk and treasurer for the city of Delafield. After many
years of dedicated service, she became city administrator, the position
she held when she retired in 1994. She earned the respect of her
co-workers and the public because of her hard work and honesty. After her
"retirement," Lois got her assessor’s license and worked for
many more years entering data for an assessor.
Lois’s creativity seemed to have no bounds. She was an accomplished
seamstress and fiber artist, creating keepsakes for her children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are sweaters, blankets, place
mats, pillowcases, rugs, wall-hangings, kitchen towels and a hand-woven
coat in the family Logan plaid. Lois also loved to garden and bake bread
with her husband. Basement shelves were filled every fall with jars of
yellow and green beans, tomatoes, beets, pears, pickles, honey and beeswax
candles. Lois provided for her family in many various and wonderful ways.
Lois is survived by Charles, her husband of 62 years; her children,
Barbara (Mike) O’Connell of Washington Island, Charles II of Portage,
Mich., Gerald (Barbara) of Shell Lake, Patricia (Bill) Schutz of
Washington Island and Kristine (Jim) McGarigle of Merrill; her sister,
Ruth Rhinesmith of Waukesha; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and
two nephews and their families, and many, many friends. Visitation will be
held from 9:30 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, May 15, at
St. Anskar’s Episcopal Church, N48-W31340 Hill Road, Hartland. Final
rest will be in Holy Innocents Cemetery, Nashotah. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to St. Anskar’s Episcopal Church. Evert-Luko
Funeral Home is serving the family. For more information, call 367-2156 or
