Walter J. ‘Walt’ Schlagheck
Dec. 24, 1922 – May 21, 2010
Walter J. "Walt" Schlagheck of Waukesha died Friday, May 21,
2010, surrounded by his family at Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care at
the age of 87. He was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of
Frank and Catherine Schlagheck.
Walter married the love of his life, Louise (nee Potthoff), on Nov. 29,
1947. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Walter
worked at Downey Veterans Hospital in Great Lakes, Ill., for 27 years. He
was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church. First and foremost, he loved
spending time with his family.
Walter will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Louise; and
their children, Karen (Tom) Davis of Evanston, Ill., Dr. David (Cheryl)
Schlagheck of Spring Valley, Ill., Thomas (Grace) Schlagheck and Maribeth
Schaefer of Waukesha. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jennifer (Tim
Bagwell) Davis, Kevin (Sarah) Davis, Chris (Heidi) Schlagheck, Jon
Schlagheck, Matt (Kara) Schlagheck, Caitlin Schaefer, Elizabeth Schlagheck,
Nick (Erika) Schlagheck, Danica Schaefer and Kierrin Schaefer. He is
further survived by six greatgrandchildren; sisters, Sister Alma
Schlagheck of Freemont, Ohio, and Sister Rosemary Schlagheck of Freemont;
and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Schlagheck and Francis
Schlagheck; and a grandson, Ben Schlagheck.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 26,
at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha, with Mass
at noon. The Rev. Jason Lavann will officiate. Private interment will take
place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the St. Vincent de Paul
Society/St. William Catholic Church, 305 E. Main St., Waukesha, WI 53186.
