Aug. 1, 1923 – Nov. 2, 2010


Ruth D. Coonan of Waukesha passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at the age of 87. She was born Aug. 1, 1923, to Charles and Catherine Schmidt.

Ruth graduated from West Division High School in 1941. She married Donald Coonan on June 1, 1946, at St. Michael’s Church in Milwaukee. Donald preceded her in death in December 2003.

Ruth held various jobs at Harvester, the telephone company and Pfister Hotel. She retired from Glendale schools as a lunch aide. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, stitching, bowling, painting and going to her lake cottage in Oconomowoc.

Ruth is survived by her son, James of La Crosse; daughter, Kathleen (Phil) Bouche of Oconomowoc; and by grandchildren, Megan (Tim) and Patrick (Holly). Ruth is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joan Coonan, and by her adopted daughters, Laura and Janiece.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. Mass of Christian burial Friday, Nov. 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. LeMabre and to Natalie and to the staff at the Virginia Rehabilitation Center, Kim and Cindy, the Caring Place and the staff at Hospice Advantage for the love and care given to Ruth.
