Dorothy Edith Wick of Waukesha died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc at age 88.

Dorothy was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Herman and Anna (nee Sztynski) Zickuhr. She attended Pershing Elementary School and West Milwaukee High School, graduating as salutatorian of the Class of 1940. Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Howard (Bob) Wick on Oct. 12, 1943, in Milwaukee. She was employed at several firms, including the International Harvester Co., where she met Bob, as well as the Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe Railroad; General Electric; Kalmbach Publishing Co.; J. Howard Johnson Medical Offices, PC; Marquette University School of Medicine; Concordia College; and Milwaukee Insurance Co.

Dorothy was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waukesha, and, before that, Nain Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Allis, where she was an active member of the Lydia Guild and enjoyed singing in the church choir and teaching Sunday school. Mrs. Wick was a lifelong flower-lover and a regular flower-arranging exhibitor at the Wisconsin State Fair from the 1950s through the 1970s. She also belonged to several garden clubs in the Milwaukee area and served as a volunteer at the Ten Chimneys Foundation in Genesee Depot and the Red Hat Society in Milwaukee. Her other hobbies included needlework, knitting, quilting and calligraphy.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her son, Mark (Jane Bennett) Wick, of Charlottesville, Va.; her daughter, Lynne (Stephen) Thomas of Sussex; her three grandchildren, Robert Wick, Morgan Wick and Quentin Thomas; her step-granddaughter, Kellyn Bennett Morris; her devoted caregiver, Viatcheslav (Slava) Sadovnikov; nephew, Warren (Ellen) Grossmann; grandnephews, Paul, Timothy, Christopher and Craig Grossmann; and dear friends, Debra and Robert Brown and their children, of Waukesha.

Mrs. Wick was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 2006; as well as by her sister, Edna Grossmann, in 2003.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the noon funeral service Monday, Nov. 22, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1052 Whiterock Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Larry Gates will be officiating. Inurnment will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha.
