Dominic San Fillippo Sr.

Francis San Fillippo Sr. entered heaven Aug. 5, 2010, in Foley, Ala. He
was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Waukesha, the son of the late Salvador and
Marie (Armaro) San Fillippo of Salerno, Italy.
Dominic proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II
where he was first introduced to his wife-to-be by becoming her pen pal,
an introduction made possible by his brother, Sam. After spending his last
year as a communication and cryptographic chief on the island of Maui,
Dominic moved to New Orleans and married Ursula Fabert, his wife of 36
years, who preceded him in death in 1983.
Dominic and Ursula lived in New Orleans for several years before moving to
Bay St. Louis, Miss. He was an avid outdoorsman who promoted responsible
hunting, fishing and wildlife conservation. He worked as a radio
technician for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries until
his retirement in 1980.
He is survived by three sons and one daughter, Dominic (Pam) San Fillippo
Jr. of Bay St. Louis, Paul (Lynda) San Fillippo of Hammond, La., James San
Fillippo of Foley and Melanie (Andrew) Mitchell of Bay St. Louis;
grandchildren, Timothy, Michael and Amy San Fillippo of Hammond, and Drew
Mitchell of Bay St. Louis; brothers, Salvadore Sam San Fillippo of
Madison, Anthony "Tony" San Fillippo of Oconomowoc; and sister,
Mary San Fillippo of Oconomowoc. He is also survived by a very close
niece, Barbara Zaun of Phoenix.
Prior to Katrina, Dominic was a member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic
Church in Bay St. Louis. Post-Katrina, Dominic became a member of St.
Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley, Ala., and a member of Our
Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores, Ala. Dominic will be
