WAUKESHA
June A. Burrowes (nee Davis)
June
A. Burrowes (nee Davis) of Waukesha, formerly of England and Bermuda,
found eternal peace Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, in Brookfield.
June was born in 1921 in Brighton, England. She
was raised and lived in Oxford until conscripted into the Royal Army to
serve during World War II, where she performed range-finding calculations
for an anti-aircraft battery on the southern coast of England. Following
the war, she returned to her position as assistant to Sir Basil Blackwell
in the bookselling and publishing business. She subsequently earned her
teaching certificate at Worcester Training College.
In 1954, she set sail for Bermuda to teach. Once
there, she met Sydney Burrowes and, in 1955, they were married and their
three children were born in Bermuda. June fondly remembered Bermuda as
some of the happiest days of her life. When Sid was offered a permanent
position with AquaChem in Waukesha, the family left in 1966 for new
adventures in America.
In 1974, June took a position at GE Medical
Systems in Waukesha as a secretary, retiring in 1991. In the early 1970s
she began her active involvement with Waukesha Civic Theatre, appearing in
a number of productions over the years, something she had also relished in
both England and Bermuda. Once no longer acting, she regularly worked in
the box office at Waukesha Civic Theatre. In retirement, she stayed active
with friends, golfing, vacationing and exercising.
She was the beloved mother of Alison (John) Olsen,
Stephen (Sandra) Burrowes and Karen (Ken) Reichert and the dearest Nana to
Katy, Lauren, Brett, Spencer, Graham, Megan, Sarah, Heather, Ken and
Kristin. She is also survived by nieces, a nephew, other relatives and
friends.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the 3
p.m. memorial service Saturday, Nov. 6, at St. Bartholomew Episcopal
Church, N27-W24000 Paul Court, Pewaukee, WI 53072. The Rev. Tom Papazoglakis will be officiating. A tea reception will follow the service.
Memorial donations in June’s name are
appreciated to the Waukesha Civic Theatre, P.O. Box 221, Waukesha, WI
