Darven Arthur Winger

Darven Arthur Winger, 84, of Oconomowoc, lovingly surrounded by family,
died peacefully Friday, Sept. 10, 2010.
Darven was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Ixonia, to the late Arthur and Ada (Dornfeld)
Winger. He proudly served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during World War
II. Darven, along with his brother Lester Winger, owned Winger’s Tap in
Oconomowoc. Darven and Lester were well-known for their sponsorship of
many local sports teams. Darven was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer.
He was a leader of area sportsmen’s clubs as well as an advocate for
lake access and water conservation efforts. On Oct. 3, 1948, he married
Mary Stuart in Oconomowoc, becoming loving partners and devoted parents.
Darven is survived by his wife and his children, Judy Bien of Oconomowoc,
Diane (Gene) Flanagan of Sussex, Donna (Jerry) Honeyager of Dousman and
Richard (Kim) Winger of Oconomowoc. He is further survived by his sister,
Iris Zwieg of Watertown; grandchildren, Jaime (Gary) Troedel, Mike Roe,
Erin (Adam) Kress, Kelly Flanagan, Casey (Heather) Honeyager, Cory
Honeyager, Lindsey Wendorf, Ryan Shwonek, Makenzie Winger and Brianna
Winger; and great-grandchildren, Ryder Winger and Cody Troedel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lester; and sisters,
Bernadine Pouchert, Noreen Froemming and Adeline Bremser.
The family would like to thank the chaplain, doctors, nurses and staff of
Aurora Medical Center for their professional and compassionate care.
Darven was grateful that he was able to receive health care and requested
memorials be made to the Lake Area Free Clinic of Oconomowoc.
