Charles Tanis Jr.

Charles Tanis Jr. of Waukesha died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at his daughter’s home in the town of Genesee at the age of 83.

He was born on April 15, 1927, in Homewood, Ill., one of seven children born to Charles and Jesse (nee: Wilson) Tanis Sr. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, on the submarine the USS Pogy, during World War II. On Oct. 5, 1946, he married the former Lois Scott in Homewood, Ill. He spent his early career following in his father’s footsteps as a golf professional and member of the PGA. Chuck then became a co-founder of Tanis Inc. He was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Lois, of Waukesha, along with their children Barbara Tanis of Waukesha, Susan L. (Bill Holdorf Jr.) Tanis of Waukesha, Scott (Jane Lumby) Tanis of East Troy and Beth (Bill) Tanis-Durkin. Chuck was the dear grandfather of Angela, Anastasia, the late Justin, Haley, Rachel and Liza and great-grandfather of Gus and Zave. He is further survived by his sister Norma Tanis Duncan of Columbus, Ohio; brother Richard (Roxane) Tanis of Matteson, Ill.; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters Betty, Mary and Gloria and brother Tom.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. A second visitation will take place from noon Wednesday, Sept. 22, until the 1 p.m. funeral service at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha. Military honors will follow the service at church. Interment will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery.
