George Robert Zielinski Oct. 17, 1946 – Sept. 11, 2010 George Robert Zielinski found peace Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at age 63. He is survived by a daughter, Heather Ann (Ed) Steckley; life partner, Sue Semrad; former wife, Maureen Zielinski; cousin, Richard Pasyak; nieces, Stephanie and Natalie Pasyak; pal, Murphy; as well as countless friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, George T. and Sarah Zielinski; and devoted hound, Harley. A father, artist, guitarist, pilot, fisherman, avid reader, golfer and friend, George was always up for sharing a toast, a laugh and warm conversation. George proudly served our country in Vietnam from 1966-67 as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded a Purple Heart. George was also 1st vice commander of the New Berlin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5716 and served regularly on the VFW Honor Guard. George was a very noted and published artist of military hardware, in particular, airplanes from a variety of nations. A number of special paintings recognizing each of the armed services decorate the VFW hall. He recently collaborated with friend and author Ron Werneth on the book, "Beyond Pearl Harbor: The Untold Stories of Japan’s Naval Airmen." George was also a longtime member of the Wisconsin wing of the Commemorative Air Force of the U.S. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home, 620 15th Ave., Union Grove. A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Union Grove Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are greatly appreciated.
