Dorothy H. Hayes (nee Gadwood) passed away March 24, 2011, at the wonderful age of 99 years young.

She was born in Milwaukee on August 10, 1911, to parents Frank and Helen (nee Wieland). She was the loving mother of Ruthann (Ian) Watts; beloved grandmother of Thomas (Terry) Legare, Brian (Kathleen) Legare, Drs. Janet (Vivek) Legare-Balasubramaniam, Sharon (Chad) Ratieke, Rebecca Hayes, Linda Hayes and Margaret Colson. She will be greatly missed by all of her great-grandchildren Seth, Noah, Adam, Justin, Kevin, William, Andrew, Tyler, Carrie, Kimberly, Joey, Alexandria, Abigail, Max and Gus.

Dorothy retired from REXNORD and was a long time resident of West Allis until she moved to Oconomowoc. She was a member of the Hartland American Legion Auxiliary and the Dousman Order of the Eastern Star Chapter. She was a 20 year member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Oconomowoc. Dorothy loved playing cards especially sheepshead and cribbage. When she played, it was always for money: nickels, dimes and quarters with pennies for the kids. In addition she enjoyed traveling and listening to baseball and football games.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Hayes; her sisters Eleanor Anderson and Catherine Brown; and her brother John Gadwood. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews and other family members.

An Eastern Star Service will begin at 10:45 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 995 South Silver Lake St., in Oconomowoc, with a luncheon following. Visitation will be at church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Eastern Star Service. If desired, memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Eastern Star Foundation or St. Jerome Catholic Church in Dorothy’s memory.
