Sue Frances Peterson Kosednar

Oct. 10, 1929 - March 19, 2011

Sue Frances Peterson Kosednar passed away Saturday, March 19, 2011, in Tucson, Ariz. She was born Oct. 10, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., to Francis Beebe Cochran and Robert Cochran and was raised in Sparta, Wis., and Rawlings, Wyo.

She graduated from nursing school at Methodist Hospital in Madison in 1949 and worked in labor and delivery/nursery. She later obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Alverno College in Milwaukee and counseled at Planned Parenthood in Waukesha. Sue furthered her education at age 63 and worked another seven years as a massage therapist.

In 1950, she married Jack Arthur Peterson and was blessed with five children: Julianne Hansen (Michael), Christian (Brenda), Jennifer Wendt (Peter), Daniel (Josie) and Robert (Jewel Market). Her adopted son, Robert McGaff (Rhonda Bryhn), was celebrated into the family in 1989. A divorce occurred in 1986. In 1992, Sue married Francis (Frank) Kosednar, and was delighted to include his nine children into her loving family circle: Timothy, Michael (Kathy), Jane, David (Martina Kral), Patricia, Kathryn, Valerie (Mark Greico), Mary Ashton and Daniel (Kimberly Vrubley). Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a large number of extended family members and friends rounded out Sue’s world of joy.

Sue resided in Waukesha since 1963. For more than 50 years she volunteered and acted in leadership roles in numerous community groups and causes. She remained a steadfast leader and member of Salem United Methodist Church, yet her faith and spirituality expanded far beyond the confines of the building and church community.

Her greatest joy was her family. Her zest for living and her unconditional love grew exponentially with her ever-expanding family and circle of friends, scattered from Waukesha to Tucson, where she and Frank spent the past 19 winters.

A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Salem United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Linda Vance presiding.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to Salem United Methodist Church or donor’s choice.
