Florence Grenwis (nee Draeger), 87, of Pewaukee, died peacefully at home Wednesday morning, April 6, 2011, after longterm hospice care for dementia. Florence was born May 12, 1923, in Oconomowoc, the daughter of Frank Edward Berthald Draeger and Elsie Marie (nee Erickson) Draeger.
She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Waukesha. Florence was one of nine children. Florence survived a bout of polio as a child, graduated from high school and went to work at Allis Chalmers. Florence was a champion bowler when she met her husband, Ernst R. Grenwis. They married, lived in Pewaukee and had four children.
Florence enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, gardening and taking trips to Iowa to visit her sister-in-law, “Ida Blue.” After Ernie passed in 1980, Florence took a job at Boston Store for awhile and then at Kohl’s for another 23 years, and then retired in July 2004. She was a lifelong member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Pewaukee, since her marriage until her death.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Gayle (Leonard) Brown of Waukesha, Marjorie (James) Kelly of St. Florida, Jeffrey (Sue) Grenwis of Neenah and Denis Grenwis of Pewaukee; her grandchildren, Melissa Rezner, Amy (Mike) Coon, Sarah Grenwis and David (Jessica) Grenwis; her great grandchildren, Jacob and Matthew Rezner and Abby Coon; her brothers, Frank-Cook (Marge) Draeger and James (Karen) Draeger; and her sister, Pat (Tom) Nygren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernie; two sisters, Francis Schutta and Anna Peterson; and three brothers, Frank Edward, John (Bud) and Ralph Draeger.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, N27-W24000 Paul Court, Pewaukee. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Pewaukee.
