Juliane ‘Lia’ Riesner

Feb.15, 1923 – Aug. 8, 2011

Juliane "Lia" Riesner was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara Stein.

Lia was a beloved wife and mother, and will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Lia met the love of her life, Robert Riesner, during World War II in Germany. They were married in 1944 and remained together for 66 years, until cancer took her life.

Lia and Robert moved to America in 1950 and began to build a new life for themselves. Lia was accomplished seamstress who also loved gardening, baking, playing cards and cooking gourmet food. She loved to travel and see the world with her husband and her family. She was known as the "Cruise Director" sailing the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the Baltic. Lia also liked to spend winters in Mexico.

She was the loving mom of Carol (Cliff) Carlson, Barb (Ken) Knoebel, Michael (Gail) Riesner and Lorraine Riesner of St. Louis; beloved Oma to Jim Carlson, Amanda (Ali) Kahn, Laura (Jason) Menting, Jeanna Riesner and Jenell Riesner; and great-grandmother of Miguel and Laila. Lia will be remembered by many friends and relatives, here and in Germany.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert B. Riesner Jr.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. funeral service Friday, Aug. 12, at Church and Chapel Funeral Home, 380 Bluemound Road (at highways J and JJ, four blocks south of Interstate 94), Waukesha. A private entombment will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lia’s name may be made to Seasons Hospice of Waukesha or the American Cancer Society.
