Michael ‘Rocky’ McGrorty

Michael "Rocky" McGrorty, age 64, entered eternal life on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, after a five-year battle with melanoma. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Brigitta (Breu Ritter); his three daughters Rockel, Michelle and Megan (Jon Puthoff); his stepsons Andy and Ben Ritter; his sisters Lori McGrorty and Geraldine (Ron) Buchholz; his brothers Kevin, Joe and Randy; his grandson, Danny Ristow; great-granddaughter Adriana, as well as an aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Rocky was our Marathon Man. He had a passion for running and a remarkable endurance. He tackled his illness with the same strength and fortitude he used in training and running. He accomplished three marathons and was a faithful participant at Al’s Run, the Susan G. Komen run, Sampson Stomp and many others. After 35 years as a service tech for Sears, he relished his retirement and took classes as often as he could. He was truly a lifelong learner. He loved his family above all else and was never too busy to share his time, talent and endless love. We have lost our dearest treasure. We are all better because we have known him and basked in his selfless nature.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Hartson Funeral Home, 11111 W. Janesville Road in Hales Corners, followed by an 8 p.m. vigil service. The funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. (A visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the church.) Private interment is planned.
