Dennis A. Shook

Dennis A. Shook, age 60 and a resident of Kenosha, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, after a brief illness.
Born on March 13, 1951 in Milwaukee, he was the son of the late Arthur and Olive (Waters) Shook. The family moved to Muskego, where Dennis was raised and educated. He was class president when he graduated from Muskego High School in 1969, and went on to achieve a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh. On Nov. 6, 1976, he married the former Laura L. Bauer in Muskego. They moved to Kenosha in 1980.
Dennis was a well-respected journalist in Kenosha. He was formerly employed as a political reporter by the Kenosha News until the early 1990s, and also worked at The Freeman and the Shepherd Express as a writer and editor. He was most recently employed as regional communications manager for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Dennis was also a favorite of local cable television viewers, appearing on many locally produced shows. He was known as a fair and gracious political opponent and was well liked by people on all sides of any issue. Dennis was also a huge supporter of Kenosha’s city basketball and softball leagues, where he will be missed for his kind words and warm smile. He was also a member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He is survived and mourned much too soon by his wife, Laura, and his children, Dennis Jr. of Kenosha and Julia of Milwaukee. Dennis is also survived by his brothers Frank (Shirley) and Allen (Cheri) and also by his sister, Laura E. Shook, all of Muskego, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A service of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenosha (5038 19th Ave.). Visitation with the family will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Greenridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the family.
