Margaret Forbes Gerber, a longtime Hartland resident, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, following a long illness at the age of 87.
She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a degree in home economics. In 1946, she married Milan "Mike" Gerber, who preceded her in death in 1958. After getting married, she began her career as a childrenís librarian, first at Hartland Elementary School then at Willow Springs and Lannon School in the Hamilton School District. After retirement in 1985, she spent her time working at the Delafield Public Library, enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sewing, traveling and reading.
She was a former Girl Scout leader and member of the Waukesha Librarianís Association, the American Association of University Women and the Hartland Womenís Club.
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Milan "Mickey" (Karen) Gerber of Brandon, Ralph (Marci) Gerber of Hartland and Richard Gerber of Waukesha; her grandchildren, Milan E. (Ashley) Gerber, Jeffrey Gerber, Christopher (Mary) Gerber, Matthew (Julie) Gerber, Molly Gerber, Brent Snyder and Shawn (Nancy) Snyder; and her great-grandchildren, Brayden, Aubrey, Charles, Emily and Adrianna. She is further survived by her brother, Forbes (Beverly) Smith, and nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother Ellsworth "Pat" (Mary) Smith.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Evert-Luko Funeral Home, 170 Warren Ave., Hartland. Private burial will take place in the Hartland Village Cemetery.
