HARTLAND

Gilbert E. Weigel, a longtime Hartland resident, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at the age of 86.

Gib was the original band director at Arrowhead High School for 30 years. He was a founding member of the Hartland Community Band and was active in many Hartland organizations, including the American Legion and Kiwanis. He was a former Hartland Man of the Year and Arrowhead Teacher of the Year.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 62 years, Agnes. He will be missed by his children, Kathryn (Robert) Spargo, Jeffrey (Mary Lu) Weigel and Mary (William) Schmitz. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his sister, Eileen Behling.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by six siblings.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service Friday, Feb. 25, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, W299-N5782 Highway E, Hartland. His final rest will be in Hartland Lutheran Cemetery.

If desired, memorials may be made to the AHS Gib Weigel Scholarship Fund or to the church.
