Lila M. Melby
March 18, 1932 – Jan. 8, 2011
Lila
M. Melby of Waukesha died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at home at
the age of 78. She was born March 18, 1932, the daughter of Henry and
Mabel Mester in Belmont.
Lila was a longtime, active member of St. Mark’s
Evangelical Lutheran Church. She and her family served coffee and cookies
after church services for more than 25 years. She was the sunshine lady,
proofread the church newsletter and church bulletins and served as church
librarian for many years. Lila was co-superintendent of the open foods
class at the Waukesha County Fair with her daughter, Cindy, since 1994.
She entered many baking competitions for Waukesha County and the Wisconsin
State Fair for many years. Lila was a service representative for the
Social Security office and was also a member of the Waukesha Elks Ladies.
Lila will be sadly missed by her husband, William
"Bill"; her children, Mark and Cynthia "Cindy," both
of Waukesha; and her sister, Alice (Merle) Klein of Platteville. She is
further survived by other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. until the 6
p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Jan. 12, at St. Mark’s Evangelical
Lutheran Church, 424 Hyde Park Ave., Waukesha. The Rev. Larry Smith will
officiate. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Prairie Home
Cemetery (meet at the cemetery office).
Memorials are appreciated to the family to be
donated to Lila’s favorite charities at a later date.
