Lorena Katzfey Schmear

Lorena Katzfey Schmear, 89, of Lenoir, N.C., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at the home of her daughter surrounded by family and friends. She was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Waukesha, to the late Joseph and Anna Katzfey.

Lorena was married Sept. 4, 1940, to Armand (Jack) Schmear, who preceded her in death after 59 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. She was a Christian and attended Lenoir Community Church, where she and her husband served as custodians for many years, and was currently a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church. She was a 13-year beloved resident of Koinonia Apartments, where she enjoyed independent living with many friends.

Lorena is survived by her sons, Chester (Karen) Schmear of Milwaukee and Barry (Susan) Schmear of Mukwonago; daughter, Becky (Greg) Hickok of Lenoir; grandchildren, Tammy Klipfel, Teke (Dionne) Klipfel, Kyle Hickok, Kory Hickok (fiancee Jessica Oder), Lori Jo Schmear, Thor Schmear, Jodi Schmear, Chad (Tonia) Schmear, Chris (Marsha) Schmear, Shawn (Melissa) Schmear, William (Connie) Schmear; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Lorena requested no services and has donated her body to science. In lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645.

She left this wish: “When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, who cry for a soul set free. Miss me a little – but not too long – and not with your head bowed low. Remember the love we shared – miss me – but let me go.”
