Scott Alan Smithers was born in Waukesha on Aug. 17, 1958, and passed away suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011. Scott grew up enjoying the area and developing many friends and valued relationships.

Scott graduated from Waukesha North High School in 1976. After graduation, Scott attended Waukesha County Technical Institute, earning a degree in police science. In 1979, he moved to Minnesota, attending the University of Minnesota, Mankato, graduating in 1982. Scott then attended Hamline University Law School. He held several positions in the financial and brokerage industry.

In the 1990s, he established Kenwood Financial, where he composed and printed investment materials for financial advisers. Most recently, he was employed with the Birch Cove Group in Minneapolis.

Scott spent the last 32 years of his life in Minneapolis, a city he fell in love with.

He is survived by his parents, Bills and Elaine Smithers of Pewaukee; a sister, Sue (Rick) Kasmarick of St. Louis; and two brothers, Craig of Pasadena, Calif., and Phil (Teri) of Mesa, Ariz. Scott also had a niece and three nephews, as well as other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.

A memorial service is planned from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 15, at Salem United Methodist Church, 541 Highway 59, Waukesha, with the Rev. Linda Vance presiding.
