Phyllis Briggs, 84, of Janesville and formerly of Waukesha, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Evansville Manor. She was born in Chicago on April 9, 1927, the daughter of Ernst and Nellie (LaRue) Keppler.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and married Ethan Briggs in Waukesha on April 27, 1946. He preceded her in death March 30, 1995. Phyllis had lived in Waukesha for 40 years and taught second grade at Big Bend until her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed her family and going on trips with her sister Ethel to Ho Chunk and Diamond Joes.
She is survived by her three children, William (Linda) Briggs of Fitchburg, Patricia (Lon) Coppernoll of Janesville and David (Laura) Briggs of California; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Edward Schroeder Jr.) Coppernoll, Melissa (Samuel) Meister, Amy (Joseph Gifford) Briggs and Preston Boggs; and other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Ethel Jansky, Ileane Glaeser and Lois Bruns; and one brother, Ernie Keppler.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service Thursday, July 14, at Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Melvin officiating. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park.
