Melbert E. Schwulst

April 10, 1926 - July 4, 2011

Waukesha native Melbert E. Schwulst passed away Monday, July 4, 2011, in Mountain Home, Ark., at the age of 85. He was born April 10, 1926, to Emma (nee Zimmerman) and Elmer Schwulst in Waukesha.

Melbert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Elvin, Robert, Warren and Richard; and sister, Bernice Kind.

He is survived by his wife, Gisela E. (nee Mildenberger); sons, Dennis R. and Scott S.; grandson, Joshua S. of Waukesha; sisters, Betty (Vernon) Benson and Lois Stoll; and a brother, Edward.

He married Gisela while stationed in Germany in 1949 and son Dennis was born in 1950.

After his service in the military, he brought his young family back to the states and eventually made his way back to his home town of Waukesha where his second son, Scott S., was born in 1958.

He moved to Wales in 1978, where he lived until he retired from Alloy Product Corp. in 1988, after 35 years of service.

In 1996, he and his wife moved to Mountain Home. He continued to play golf and fish with his late buddies Del and Wave, whom he enjoyed dearly. Melbert was delighted when family and friends would make the long trip down south to spend some quality time telling bad jokes and making light-hearted jabs at each other. He always made sure you called when you returned back home to make sure you made it safely. His favorite thing to do in Mountain Home - besides going out for lunch - was going to the bluegrass jams every Friday and Saturday night with his neighbor Paul to hear "foot stompin" music and have a few snacks.

His selfless devotion to family and friends, his sense of humor and his thoughtful view of life, made a lasting impression on those whose lives he touched.

We would like to thank Hospice of the Ozarks, Hospice House for their outstanding care, warm hearts and compassion.

An informal memorial will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 24, for family and friends at the Schwulst residence, W224-S5330 Guthrie Road, Waukesha.
