Shirley M. Payne, 81, of Sullivan, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Born on Dec. 9, 1929, in Helenville, to Elmer and Millie (Emmert) Haag, she married Donald Payne on June 11, 1949, at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Jefferson.

She was a member of the Sullivan United Methodist Church.

Shirley and her loving husband of 62 years began farming in Golden Lake and then moved to their current dairy operation in Sullivan in 1960. She enjoyed gardening and loved her flowers. She was a Sunday school teacher and a 4-H leader.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Payne of Sullivan; two daughters, Barbara (Kenneth) Schroedl of Jefferson and Donna (Kurtis) Gennerman of Lake Mills; four sons, Donald (Connie) Payne Jr. of Iron Ridge, Michael (Barbara) Payne of Phillips, Daryl (Tammy) Payne of Sullivan and Steven Payne of Farmington; 10 granddaughters, Kristen Schroedl, Traci Gennerman, Diane Rue, Amanda Kluz, Chantel Valiga, Trista Hertel and Jaime, Courtney, Rebecca, and Hannah Payne; seven grandsons, Daren Schroedl, Brian Gennerman, Brycen Valiga and Craig, Derek, Brent and Tyler Payne; seven great-granddaughters, Skyleigh Schroedl, Anna Rue, Alexa Manthey, Rachel and Meredith Payne, and Emmalee and Evelyn Hertel; four great-grandsons, Justin Rue, Benjamin Gennerman, Noah Payne and Marshall Kluz; two nieces, Debbie Haag and Sandra Armantrout; and two nephews, Gary Haag and Wayne Schultz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Pearl Schultz; and one brother, Eugene Haag.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Olsen Funeral Home, 221 S. Center Ave., Jefferson. Visitation continues from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, June 13, at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Jefferson, with Carolyn Boyden officiating. Burial will take place in Zion Cemetery in Helenville.
